← Chip Atlas / IndexOutside Five Sigma chip source guide
This guide describes the original photonics source archive. See industry coverage for the expanded vendor and source-photograph collection.
The private repository contains original annotations, summaries, source links, and viewer code. Downloaded articles, images, papers, and copied datasets remain in an optional local archive. File inventories described below apply to that local collection.
Use the teardown photographs and chip maps to identify physical structures. Use the tutorials for context and reference leads. Use the weekly posts and conference slides to find further device examples. Check the evidence class before turning any source statement into an architecture input.
Core sources
| Source |
What it contributes |
Interpretation limits |
| Infinera interactive map |
Full resolution die tiles, generated schematic, component annotations, connections, and confidence labels |
The map contains interpreted roles and unresolved paths. Its entries include routes and pads. |
| Infinera chip analysis |
Die observations and an explanation of lasers, modulation, monitoring, and coherent reception |
The author explicitly makes guesses. The original article and later map can differ. |
| Map corrections and development notes |
October 2026 corrections and unresolved WLL interpretations |
Preserve the uncertainty rather than selecting one WLL direction. |
| 100G to 800G transceiver teardowns |
Intel, Cisco and Finisar, and Innolight module photographs and device interpretations |
Nearby images do not always establish a unique module or die identity. |
| Silicon photonics and CPO |
Modulation, detection, multiplexing, electronic placement, packaging, bandwidth counting, and reported energy examples |
Keep engine totals separate from per-die specifications. |
| Selected Basics of Silicon Photonics |
Components, materials, modulators, and further reading |
Tutorial context does not establish the performance of every industry chip. |
| OFC 2026 |
Conference photographs, captions, and expandable OCR text |
Vendor slides describe claims and demonstrations. Verify OCR against the photograph before using a number. |
| Fiber to chip concepts |
Coupling and packaging concepts |
Compare coupling loss and package constraints at the same reference planes. |
| Fiber packaging collection |
Fiber attachment and alignment examples |
Photographs alone do not establish assembly yield or cost. |
| Wirebonding tutorial |
Practical electrical packaging context |
Preserve the stated setup and conditions. |
| Energy to transmit one bit |
Background for communication energy comparisons |
Distinguish physical bounds from an implemented transceiver's energy. |
Weekly posts and structured datasets
The searchable library lists selected weekly posts and their relevant section headings. Reading copies retain topical sections. Complete original pages and full extracted text remain available for context. Repeated project portfolios at the end of newsletters are navigation and are excluded from topical asset harvesting.
Useful starting points are weekly 106, weekly 114, and weekly 121. They include modulator and control discussion, PIC and EIC stacking and coherent lite commentary, and DSP and external laser commentary respectively. These posts can identify useful questions and references. They do not supply a uniform measured comparison.
Additional linked resources include the electro-optic modulator atlas, OFC paper browser, and IEEE presentation browser. See the supplemental folder's inventory for captured datasets and technical files. A browser's reference list can include documents outside the collection's local file coverage.
Evidence classes
| Class |
Meaning for analysis |
| Physical label or photograph |
A visible marking or structure. A function may still require interpretation. |
| Author identification |
A source interpretation of a chip, component, or path. Preserve the source's qualifications. |
| Vendor or conference slide |
A reported product, architecture, or demonstration claim. Preserve its conditions and footnotes. |
| OCR |
Text extracted from an image. Check the image before treating it as an input. |
| Calculated value |
A result from stated inputs and a stated equation. Keep it separate from a reported measurement. |
| Assumption |
A chosen input for sensitivity analysis. Give it a range and label it. |
The Infinera source uses L for a die label or an identification in the article, and I for an inferred layout role. L does not mean independently verified. Keep these original fields when extracting component counts or functions.
Provenance and collection limits
01_Outside5Sigma/metadata/pages.json links source URLs to original files, reading copies, and text extracts. manifest.json records retrieval results and SHA-256 hashes. collection_summary.json gives exact collection counts. collection_gaps.json lists files that could not be retrieved. Supplemental datasets have their own manifests and coverage notes.
The discovery scan preserves the raw pages examined, including pages outside the selected reading collection. Original file bytes are unchanged. Reading pages and the Infinera map use local asset and navigation paths. Telemetry is removed, and externally hosted video embeds become links.
Figures and slides remain image evidence. Their presence in the collection does not mean every numeric value has been transcribed or checked. The chip catalog contains selected explicit devices; its row count is not the total number of industry chips mentioned across all archived sources. External reference links do not imply that the entire linked website or repository has been copied.
